On Friday, June 9th, the Citizens Foundation will host the 9th Annual Placemaking Conference & Awards. Our keynote speaker is national public health, planning and transportation consultant Mark Fenton. Mr. Fenton is the former host of "America's Walking" on PBS and is an adjunct associate professor at Tufts University's Friedman School of Nutrition Science & Policy.
Topics include: Physical activity and placemaking; Planning for people, not cars; Activity & Accessibility Throughout the Ages: Designing Communities for All Populations & Generations and Complete Streets.

At the end of the day, monetary awards will be given to projects that plan to transform, or have transformed, public spaces into vital places that spur rejuvenation and improve the local community. This year, highest priority will be given to projects that focus on physical activity such as walkability, bike lanes, safe routes to schools, Complete Streets, etc.
